Salon Goings On
The Salon helps us make space and time for what we love to do: write. But more than that, it invites us to engage with the otherwise solo, and sometimes grueling, process of writing in a way that's more connected, accountable, and encouraging.
Anne Lamott says, "an occupational hazard of writing is that you'll have bad days. You feel not only totally alone but also that everyone else is at a party. But if you talk to other people who write, you remember that this feeling is part of the process, that it's inevitable."
We can't write for you, but we will help you feel less alone. We hope you'll find what you need to keep at it. Join us!

Writing as a practiceThe Salon started as a place to connect and reflect, but mostly to "write alone, but together." Holding energetic space to practice putting words onto the page is still our meat and potatoes.
Outside of Poppins and Finishers, we have many two-hour Salons weekly. Members can join based on your member level and others can get passes. Talking about writingOne of the delights of the Salon has been writers reflecting with each other on the challenging, messy, and rewarding bumps and hurdles.
Member jams are a chance to get into plans and pickles of writing. We meet monthly and each member gets 8 - 15 minutes to use as they like. Drop in participation is open to all members. |
The best part of waking upBased on Julia Cameron's morning pages, we get together every day at 8:30am for a quick 30 minute pop-in to clear our heads, get the creative juices flowing, and share some laughs.
Poppins also has a Google group, where we share the useful and silly things that come up. Member or not, we welcome everyone to come write pages with us. Reading about writingThis book club is unlike any other: we read books about writing, like Natalie Goldberg and Stephen King. Meta, we know. Rather than discuss once, we read and practice with one book over a couple months.
We meet every other Sunday to discuss and play with prompts. All members welcome. We are reading Remembered Rapture from Oct 18th - Dec 13th. |
Accountability boosterFinishers are writers who meet weekly at the same day and time for ~ 12 weeks and work on a single project. It's still about writing together, but with a booster of accountability and connection.
Groups kick off anew each quarter and meet Mon. 8pm, Wed. 5:30pm, Sat. 3pm. Due to the regularity, groups are open to medium and large memberships. Getting to know writersTurns out, writers are the best humans. Thoughtful, introspective, curious, we are fun to hang out with beyond writing. Every week, we have a Sunday Supper and, once a month, we have a First Friday social.
This social time is unstructured, except sometimes involves a spontaneous game. Fridays are for all members. Suppers are open to everyone, member or not. |
In addition to all of the above ways to participate in the Salon, we have regular ticketed workshops and events, to which members get a discount. Check out the calendar to learn about upcoming happenings.
We also have a quarterly intention and motivation workshop that is free and open to all. Writers come to the Salon for tons of reasons; come connect to yours. Join us one Saturday coming up for a booster shot. |
The Salon is supported by memberships, Salon passes, and workshop and event tickets. Learn more about membership here.
