DC WRITERS' SALON

About Quarterly Member Jams

(+ social hour to follow)

Author Anne Lamott says, "an occupational hazard of writing is that you'll have bad days. You'll feel not only totally alone but also that everyone else is at a party. But if you talk to other people who write, you remember that this feeling is part of the process, that it's inevitable."

Feeling less alone in your writing is part of what the Salon is all about. Normalizing the rough patches can help us show up to the page.
And sometimes we want more from each other - feedback, commiseration, advice, just to feel heard, etc.

This is a space to reflect and get support on the challenging, messy, and rewarding parts of the writing process. The member jam is a quarterly event to do just that. It's a time to connect with each other on a deeper level. These are the upcoming dates:

  • Sunday, August 1st, 3 - 6pm
  • Sunday, November 21st, 3 - 6pm
  • Sunday, February 6th (yes, 2022), 3 - 6pm

For the first two hours, each writer gets 8 - 15 minutes to use as they like with the group - share some writing, get feedback on a piece, ask for advice about their process, talk out a scene or character, explore how to adjust their writing process, etc. It's an open-ended, community-building, and reflective time. Then, if folks are in the mood, we hang out for the last hour. All members welcome!
