DC WRITERS' SALON

About Monthly Member Jams

Author Anne Lamott says, "...an occupational hazard of writing is that you'll have bad days. You'll feel not only totally alone but also that everyone else is at a party. But if you talk to other people who write, you remember that this feeling is part of the process, that it's inevitable."

Feeling less alone is what the Salon is all about - normalizing the rough patches can help us keep showing up to the page.
And sometimes we want more from each other - feedback, commiseration, advice, etc.

The Salon is a space to reflect and get support on the challenging, messy, and rewarding parts of the writing process. The member jam is a monthly drop-in to do just that and connect on a deeper level. Jams are on the 4th or 5th Saturday of every month. These are the upcoming dates:

  • Sunday, January 31st, 12:30 - 2:30pm
  • Sunday, February 28th, 12:30 - 2:30pm
  • Sunday, March 28th, 12:30 - 2:30pm
  • Sunday, April 25th, 12:30 - 2:30pm

The specific format is that each writer gets 8 - 15 minutes to use as they like with the group - share some writing, get feedback on a piece, ask for advice about their process, talk out a scene or character, explore how to adjust their writing process, etc. It's an open-ended, community-building, and reflective time. All members welcome!
