Common Questions & Policies
DO I HAVE TO BE A MEMBER TO COME TO A WRITING SALON?
You can absolutely come drop into a Salon or two as our guest to see if it's a fit before you become a member. WHAT IS THE COST OF A MEMBERSHIP?
There are three options: Patron is $75 per month, Practice is $125 per month, and Project is $155 per month. Learn more here. WHAT IS THE SCHEDULE OF SALONS?
There are Salons almost every day, at various times to accommodate many schedules. You can view the calendar here. Members are also able to use the studio for solo writing sessions on their own. Learn more here. HOW DO SALONS WORK?
Salons are two hours writing sessions. For the first 10 minutes, we get snacks and connect (there are oodles of snacks at the Salon!) Then we write for about 95 minutes and, at the end, do a quick round robin to reflect on the writing process. CAN I COME FOR JUST AN HOUR?
Unlike a co-working space or coffee shop, we are organized around Salons to help writers maintain focus, develop endurance, and feel connected. Writers are expected to arrive at the beginning of a Salon and stay through the end. Members who want shorter or longer sessions have the option to use open hours. Learn more here. DO I SIGN UP FOR A SALON?
No need to sign up for a Salon. You can just show up with yourself and whatever you like to write with. CAN I GET FEEDBACK ON MY WRITING?
Yes, occasionally we have a Feedback Friday where members come together to share their writing and get feedback. Members also can connect one-on-one outside of Salon to share work with each other. ARE SALONS LED BY TEACHERS?
No, Salons are self-guided. Writers can work on whatever they'd like, although we're happy to provide prompts if helpful. CAN I BORROW A BOOK FROM THE SALON?
Absolutely you can! The Salon is a giant Little Free Library. Feel free to grab a book and bring it back when you're done reading. Have a question that wasn't answered? Email us here.
