DC WRITERS' SALON

Writing Wisdom & Prompts

Over the last four months, we've been noodling on all the ways we can support each other as writers. The move to a virtual world expedited the process. As we all navigate an evolving reality, we decided to embrace a spirit of play and experimentation. This is to say, these weren't birthed from the pressure of the moment, but from the original goal to support writers in all stages of the process.

Some old and some new, here's what's going on. We hope you'll find what you need to keep growing and to keep at it.

Talking about writing

One of the delights of the Salon has been writers reflecting with each other on the challenging, messy, and rewarding bumps and hurdles. Pods are a chance to get into plans and pickles with your small group.

Lightly-coached pods of four writers meet every other Sunday morning for 90 minutes. Participation is open to those with medium or large memberships.

Reading about writing

This book club is unlike any other: we read books about writing, like Natalie Goldberg and Stephen King. Very meta, we know. Rather than discuss once, we read and practice with one book over a couple months.

We meet every other Sunday to discuss and play with prompts. All members and passes welcome. We are reading Remembered Rapture from Oct 18th - Dec 13th.

Getting to know writers

Turns out, writers are the best humans. Thoughtful, introspective, curious, we are fun to hang out with beyond writing. Every week, we have a Sunday Supper and, once a month, we have a First Friday social.

This social time is unstructured, except sometimes involves a spontaneous game. Fridays are for all members. Suppers are open to everyone, member or not.

In addition to all of the above ways to participate in the Salon, we have regular ticketed workshops and events, to which members get a discount. Check out the calendar or workshop page to learn about upcoming happenings.

We also have a monthly intention and motivation workshop that is free and open to all. Writers come to the Salon for tons of reasons; come connect to yours. Join us one Saturday or come every month for a booster shot.
The Salon is supported by memberships, Salon passes, and workshop and event tickets. Learn more about membership here.
