DC WRITERS' SALON

Welcome to the Salon!

You've come to the right place (or write place as we like to say) for community and accountability. Here is the scoop on all you need to know with key links. Feel free to bookmark this page for reference.

  • There are a bunch of Salons on our online calendar. Salons are two-hour writing sessions (as you likely know : ) Everyone writes on their own and we briefly connect for hellos, snacks, and to share our process before and after. To help writers maintain focus, develop endurance, and feel connected, it is expected everyone arrives at the beginning and stays through the end.

  • We also have a Book Club, Affinity Circles, assorted socials and potlucks, and regular A&A Q&As (Agent & Author Question & Answer) events to illuminate the publishing world. All events are posted to the Salon chalkboard, the online calendar, and shared in the member Google group.

  • Based on your membership level, you have either two visits per month, one visit per week, or unlimited visits. Project members can also join Project Group, which meets on Mondays at 8pm and Saturdays at 3pm. You can always email us to adjust based on how much you'd like to come write or to skip or pause for any reason. Community, process, and most accountability events don't count toward your visits.

  • After you've come once, members also have the option to use open hours. Read about how open hours work and text Ali C. at (412) 600-5400 at least 4 hours in advance to check availability. (For all other needs, stick to emailing us.)

  • We'd love to include you in the Member Corner wall in the nook to help other writers learn about you and connect. Fill out this survey with a bit about yourself so we can make a card for you (*we update the corner a few times a year). And check it out the next time you're at the Salon.

  • To help you get to know fellow writers, we invite you to join a Saturday coffee and tea chat at Emissary, our treat! We host four each season and open up to only five members at a time so folks can really talk and get to know one another. Check out available dates and RSVP here.

  • Lastly, and maybe most importantly, we have some fun SWAG (a long-sleeved t-shirt, a mug, etc) for when we see you, so remind us if we forget.

Don't hesitate to reach out if we can help with anything: [email protected].
